Glenn Haussman, Hotel Interactive

Here are some key notes from this presentation:

Everything is not as it seems -- don't get sucked into the hype.

Media's stock and trade is sensationalizing the news, so, we have to look at things with a different point of view.

Lodging is a street-corner business -- you are only competing against what is in your neck of the woods.

Secondary markets appear to be down less that primary markets. Focus what is going on in your neighborhood.

STR says discounting is not worth it. Recovery will take 7 years according to them.

Discounting is the root of all evil -- do NOT do it!

AH&LA, Mark V. Lomano, president of STR says things have hit rock bottom and are not going to get any worse.

Immunize yourself from irrelevancy.

We need to know what are guests want, even if they don't even really know it. We can create exciting experiences, unique events.

Leisure travel is strong and will continue to gain momentum, but you need to give them EXPERIENCES! We need to help them feel we can fill a 'hole' in their lives.

Staff that pays attention to the guests, no stressful decisions, collecting experiences, it's all about bragging rights.

Value economy: Price doesn't matter if the experience is right.

Offer things that are different and that make your guests feel special!

The rest of the presentation will be posted on the members' page on the HHA website soon. Emails will go out when these are up and ready for your review.
